German hospital bed specialist Stiegelmeyer presents itself at the world’s largest medical technology trade fair MEDICA in Düsseldorf – with solutions of the software company infsoft. The trade fair presentation will focus on innovative solutions for hospital and nursing beds that enable efficient and fully automated bed management.

Intelligent bed tracking and automation software

At the trade fair, the current hospital bed models will be on display. Trendsetting is the integration of intelligent sensor technology, which is made possible through the cooperation with one of the leading providers of localization systems, the German software company infsoft. Together, Stiegelmeyer and infsoft aim to contribute to supporting patients, physicians and nursing staff and to optimizing workflow and time management.

“Our bed tracking and automation software creates a clear visual image of available resources, including real-time status information. The system offers physicians and hospital staff better administrative control and provides them with the necessary tools to track and optimize the patient’s stay,” says infsoft CEO Tobias Donaubauer. Among the innovative features of the flexible software solution is a complete overview of all beds on a digital map. This software is part of the Stiegelmeyer solution which includes the selective retrieval and targeted provision of a bed, the automated recording of beds at specific checkpoints, the notification of staff when patient safety is endangered or the reminder of upcoming inspection intervals.

A radio-based module is added to the control unit attached to the beds. Hardware installed in the building – infsoft Locator Nodes – receives the signals and forwards them to the infsoft LocAware platform®. Here, the data is processed and made available for analysis and tracking functionalities. Besides the current location of the bed, other significant features are transmitted based on additional sensor functions. Detected are, for example, the status of the height-adjustable lying surface (raised / lowered) and the occupancy status of the bed (Out-of-Bed-System) – essential components for fall prevention and ensuring patient safety. In addition, based on the definition of different triggers, messages, alerts and tasks can be configured automatically.

“MEDICA is an ideal platform for meeting existing and potential clients and presenting our innovations to them,” says Andreas Held, Head of After Sales at Stiegelmeyer. “infsoft technology is an important part of our modular hospital beds and helps us to meet many of our clients’ requirements”.
