infsoft Locator Nodes 1100 are modular hardware components that can be used in a variety of applications.
Integrated into the infsoft LocAware platform®, the Locator Nodes allow a comprehensive detection of different device types, enabled through the modular system with different sensors.

This results in flexible application possibilities: By using consumer standards such as Wi-Fi and Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE), mobile devices, Wi-Fi-enabled devices and beacons attached to persons / objects can be located. Furthermore, high-precision solutions in the industrial environment based on Ultra-wideband (UWB) can also be implemented with infsoft Locator Nodes. Connecting an RFID reader, a GPS unit or a camera system allows additional complementary sensors to be used.

The Locator Nodes capture the data they receive from the sender (i.e. smartphone or beacon) and forward them to the infsoft LocAware platform®, which processes the data. Using the various tools then allows to view positions, analyze movements, or use location-based services. An integration with third-party systems such as Cisco (CMX, DNA Spaces, MSE, Meraki), HP Aruba or Xirrus is also possible.

In addition to positioning, infsoft Locator Nodes are also able to communicate with Bluetooth devices via back channel, allowing bidirectional exchange of information.


infsoft Locator Nodes 1100 are designed to contain various components according to customer's wishes and can therefore flexibly be used and altered. Depending on the application case, they can be equipped with Wi-Fi, BLE, Ultra-wideband, RFID, a connection to an external CCTV camera and a GPS tag for self-positioning:

Locator Nodes can detect all mobile, Wi-Fi-enabled devices (such as smartphones, laptops, wearables) within a building and track them via server (without an app). This works across all mobile operating systems (Android, iOS, Blackberry, Windows Phone, etc.) and can determine the position with a typical accuracy of less than five meters. The solution complies with data protection requirements: Since the Locator Nodes use a hash algorithm (SHA-1) which re-uses MAC addresses of all device classes in an irreversible process as anonymous device IDs, a return to the original MAC address of the device is no longer possible.

Not only in the area of asset tracking or inventory management, the infsoft Locator Nodes provide a detection of Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) beacons, which can be attached to persons or goods. They enable Indoor Analytics and Indoor Tracking and can also function as beacon controllers to monitor fixed beacons, for example in the context of a client-based indoor navigation, and to carry out possible reconfigurations. The BLE technology enables battery operation over two to eight years without having to access an external power supply.

Equipped with an integrated Ultra-wideband (UWB) module, Locator Nodes can also achieve a high-precision localization of less than 30cm, which is often used in industrial applications. With this technology, the position of for instance forklifts and trucks or the storage location of goods can be determined precisely and with low latencies.

The use of RFID (radio-frequency identification) is not suitable for exhaustive positioning, but rather for a selective object identification. Using RFID, it is possible to identify and locate objects or persons by means of electromagnetic waves, as well as to read and store data without contact. The RFID reader of the Locator Nodes offers a cost-effective tracking option, especially with high quantities in pallet tracking. Intelligent connections with additional sensors can detect and optimize storage location and service life.

The addition of imaging systems such as dome cameras plays an important role in security and logistics. Connected to the Locator Nodes, a correlation between camera image and position data can be established (for example based on Wi-Fi, BLE or UWB).

In mobile application scenarios, infsoft Locator Nodes can also be equipped with a GPS module, which determines the current location of the Locator Node. The built-in complementary sensor system thus not only enables the detection of goods in a static space context, but also completely flexible.

infsoft Locator Nodes 1100 can also be complemented with external sensors to enhance position data with complementary condition information. Using infsoft Locator Nodes AoA 1200 enables measuring the direction of a radio signal (Angle of Arrival) transmitted by a Bluetooth beacon.

Data Communication

The infsoft Locator Nodes 1100 require a power supply as well as a network connection in order to provide the captured data to the infsoft LocAware platform® for indoor analytics, indoor tracking and location-based services. With the LocAware platform®, infsoft offers a secure and scalable cloud solution. Beside a broad selection of sensors, different connection options are available:

The Locator Nodes are integrated as a client into the Wi-Fi network and transfer the captured data to the infsoft backend for further processing. The required data (SSID, password, encryption type) can be managed via the infsoft Locator Nodes software tool. The Locator Nodes also support the WPA2 EAP Enterprise Wi-Fi standard.

The Locator Nodes can also transmit the captured data via LoRa network. Long Range Wide Area Network (LoRaWAN) is a low-power wireless system designed for IoT devices. It is characterized by a high range of up to 15 kilometers and short, bidirectional communication slots.

The Locator Nodes also provide data transmission via Ethernet using an RJ45 connection. It is also possible to use Power over Ethernet (PoE) to reduce cabling efforts.

Especially in mobile scenarios or outdoor areas, data communication via UMTS is an option. The necessary APN settings can be stored via the infsoft Locator Nodes software tool.

infsoft Locator Nodes enable some exciting use cases in many different industries. Here are some examples:

Employees receive an ISO card which, in addition to NFC / RFID, also contains a BLE beacon. In the case of an event, tracking in the relevant areas is activated via the building management system and information about positional data is provided to the factory fire brigade. This enables a safe localization that is taking account of data protection regulations, as no permanent tracking is performed.
