With indoor positioning and tracking, the management of large offices can be made much more efficient. Findings on how employees actually use the office space enable them to plan office space better and adapt it to their needs.
AT A GLANCE
- 2D/3D building maps
- frequency measurements
- overview of the occupancy of all office space
- connection to existing Wi-Fi infrastructure possible
PROBLEM DEFINITION
Every year, companies around the world pay millions for unused office space that is not adapted to the needs of employees and wastes resources. Office space is often not used efficiently. Either they are affected by underutilization or overutilization. In case of underutilization, conference and office rooms are usually permanently vacant. Every year, this results in high costs for unused inventory and unused square meters. But also in case of over-utilization, when capacities in the building are exhausted and conference rooms become too small due to the number of participants, considerable costs are incurred by the company.
In order to make efficient use of working time, companies need workload reports based on position data in order to show the use of the various sites (offices, meeting rooms, social rooms) – in real time and over a longer period of time.
SOLUTION
Workplace management is a generic term that encompasses all the facilities, services, technologies and processes that employees need to perform their tasks in the best possible way. Indoor tracking can increase the effectiveness of the working environment and the productivity of employees while reducing costs. All you need to do is connect the devices to be tracked to the Wi-Fi.
The movement profiles of all employees with smartphones and networked work equipment such as laptops are recorded and evaluated anonymously. As soon as data is available over a longer period of time, forecasts can be made.
infsoft implements an anonymous person tracking system that can display the position and properties of visitors in a web interface at any time.
TECHNICAL IMPLEMENTATION
Many companies plan to use their existing Wi-Fi infrastructure, such as Cisco, HP Aruba, Ruckus or Xirrus, to measure office load by detecting Wi-Fi signals from individual mobile devices. This method does not involve a great deal of additional installation effort and the workload can also be recorded passively, i. e. without the employees having to change their working methods (e. g. by carrying an additional item such as a beacon with them).
A browser application gives the company access to the data. In addition, the infsoft Analytics Tool can also be used to recall and evaluate historical data at any time and to compare it with the real-time data. In this way, management can see at a glance which areas are working to full capacity and at what time of day.
The utilization data entered can also be prepared in an app for the employees. The employee receives real-time information on the occupancy rate of the previously selected office space, indicating which rooms are least frequented and in which areas he or she will find a suitable conference room.
