Water Damage Prevention with Water-Leak Sensors

In sensitive infrastructure areas such as archives, server rooms, or basements, water leaks can potentially cause damage to valuable equipment or important documents. Additionally, temperature and humidity are critical factors that need to be monitored to maintain optimal conditions – especially in archive rooms, where fluctuations can jeopardize the durability of paper and sensitive materials.

AT A GLANCE

  • Instant notifications of water leaks or critical conditions shorten response times
  • Early intervention prevents or minimizes damage
  • Easy to install and customizable to the specific requirements of the application area
  • The combination of a water-leak sensor and temperature and humidity monitoring provides comprehensive protection

PROBLEM DEFINITION

Water leaks in critical areas such as archives or server rooms present an increased risk, as they can cause short circuits, data loss, and costly repairs. In archives, humid environments are especially problematic, as they can permanently damage documents, books, and other sensitive materials. Without automated monitoring, detecting such water leaks or critical fluctuations in temperature and humidity in a timely manner becomes highly challenging, further increasing the risk of damage and downtime.

SOLUTION

In archive rooms, sensors are strategically placed at potential weak points, such as near doors, windows, or water pipes, to quickly detect incoming water and protect valuable documents or materials. In basements, the water-leak sensor reliably identifies groundwater or rainwater, helping to prevent potential damage in a timely manner. In server rooms, the sensor is installed beneath server racks or near water sources like air conditioning units to detect leaks early. This solution ensures effective monitoring and minimizes the risk of water ingress in critical areas.

TECHNICAL IMPLEMENTATION

isometric use case water damage prevention with water leak sensors

The data collected by the water-leak sensor is instantly transmitted to the infsoft LocAware platform® via an infsoft Locator Node Dongle. On the platform, the data is centrally processed and analyzed. As soon as the sensor detects a leak, an automatic alert is generated. This notification is sent in real time to the building management system or predefined contacts, such as via push notifications or email, ensuring that responsible personnel can take immediate action to mitigate damage.

Processing via the LocAware platform® not only ensures rapid response times but also provides clear documentation of all incidents. This allows trends and potential weak points to be identified, enabling proactive measures to minimize future risks.

The solution can be further enhanced with the addition of the S1 temperature/humidity sensor. This sensor continuously monitors temperature and humidity levels in the supervised areas, helping to detect fluctuations early. If predefined thresholds are exceeded, the sensor triggers an automatic alert, allowing preventive actions to be initiated. The combination of the water-leak sensor and S1 sensor delivers comprehensive protection against both water damage and adverse climatic conditions.
