Inventory and Localization with Paper Tags

Together with existing infsoft infrastructure, infsoft Paper Tags enable efficient inventory and localization of assets.

AT A GLANCE

  • Inventory of compact objects
  • Ultra-thin and lightweight tags with a lifespan of approx. 5 years
  • Environmentally friendly paper battery – free from harmful substances such as heavy metals
  • Customized imprints (e.g., QR code, inventory number)

PROBLEM DEFINITION

Businesses occasionally face significant difficulties when it comes to localization, accurate counting, and recording due to key date inventory. RFID labels do not permit continuous detection within the infrastructure; instead, they can only be found at close range with a handheld scanner. Typically, conventional button cell batteries used in Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) Beacons are too big, unwieldy, and expensive for IT equipment.

SOLUTION

Paper Tag
infsoft Paper Tags

By using infsoft Paper Tags, even smaller items, such as laptops, and larger objects, such as tables or printers, can be labeled. The infsoft Paper Tag is attached to the corresponding asset like a sticker and, due to its dimensions of 62 x 53.5 x 2.1 mm, is inconspicuous and does not disturb the user during use. Compared to other BLE tags, the infsoft Paper Tags are not only impressive due to their size but are also many times more cost-effective and more environmentally friendly thanks to the use of a paper battery. With low monthly transmission intervals, the infsoft Paper Tag also achieves a long battery life of approximately 5 years.

TECHNICAL IMPLEMENTATION

The affordable infsoft Paper Tags, which support Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) and Near Field Communication (NFC), are mounted with adhesive strips to the assets that need to be registered, including laptops, printers, tables, etc. The tags can be customized with inventory numbers or other information. QR codes are used to ensure simple and error-free recording and allocation of assets. The tags emit Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) signals at a predefined time interval, approximately once a month. The infsoft Locator Node Dongles (e.g. plugged into access points) integrated into the infrastructure receive these signals and forward them to the infsoft LocAware platform®. This is where the actual positioning and inventory of the assets take place.

The infsoft LocAware platform® can be linked to existing databases via an interface to ERP software. In addition to the daily inventory, the solution offers further functions, such as the triggering of automatic notifications before an upcoming inspection date or the color highlighting of borrowed assets.
