25 April Adding IP Cameras to Your Indoor Positioning System 1 MIN READ April 25, 2017 By Gina Wurms general posts |use case|, |indoor tracking| 0 Especially in logistics and security, it is worthwhile to have an indoor positioning system complemented by external cameras. Indoor positioning systems have found their way into many industries. Especially in industrial environments, positioning technologies such as Bluetooth Low Energy, Wi-Fi or Ultra-wideband can make a significant contribution to speeding up and optimizing process workflows. However, the possibilities are still far from exhausted. Especially in logistics and security, it can be worthwhile to have an indoor positioning system complemented by external cameras. Correlation of image and position data Linking position data of persons, vehicles or objects with images of installed CCTV cameras not only enables an allocation of visual characteristics (e.g., color features), but also a compensation of inadequate positional accuracy by means of the comparison with a difference image. The CCTV camera(s) are connected to infsoft Locator Nodes, which act as hardware for indoor positioning and transmit the image data together with the position data to the backend (infsoft LocAware platform®). Here, the collected data can be linked and managed by the tracking or analysis software.
